IOSH Safety Sciences Group - Student Research Competition/Research & Development fund.
The IOSH 07 Conference organising committee and SSG are running a competition for the best academic research project in the field of occupational safety and health by BSc and MSc students. IOSH is asking students to submit a one-page abstract of their research work, and will then ask the 10 best entrants to create a poster for display in the exhibition area of the IOSH Conference in Telford on 27–28 March 2007. The 10 entrants IOSH select to present a poster will be
invited to attend the conference exhibition and spotlight theatre presentations. The two best entrants will receive
complimentary passes for the full conference programme and their certificates will be presented by the IOSH president.
They’ll also be asked to give a presentation supporting their submission at a date and venue to be arranged. For full information, including submission criteria, please click here. Please also note that timescales are tight - abstracts need to be submitted to IOSH by the 24th of November 2006.

Bristol & West Branch Conference - 24.11.06
Bristol & West Branch are hosting their "Looking after the assests, too" conference at the Winter Gardens Pavilion, Weston-Super-Mare, on the 24th of November 2006. The conference aims to provide delegates working in health, safey, and the environment, the opportunity to further develop their personal skills. Personal Development Award Launched!
Replacing the previous Student of the Year Competition, the Branch is pleased to launch the Personal Development Award. Entries are invited from anyone who successfully completes a full-time, part-time or distance learning course, gaining a qualification leading to membership of IOSH or upgrade of membership category, or can demonstrate that their new qualification has been applied practically to strengthen their knowledge of the management of occupational safety and health in their workplace or their own business during 2006. Change of venue for September Branch Meeting
For all those wishing to attend the September Branch Meeting on Wednesday the 13th of September, please note that the venue has changed from the Gipsy Hill Country House to the Exeter Arms Hotel. The meeting will commence as planned at 14.30, with refreshments being available from 14.00. Please see full details on our Next Branch Meeting page.

National Safety Symposium, Leicester, 4th/5th September 2006
Organised by the Public Services Group and supported by Zurich Municipal, the two-day residential symposium is aimed at anyone who has responsibility for managing or organising health and safety in the workplace. This year’s event will focus on conveying the health and safety message effectively by recognising potential communication barriers. It will look at skills and techniques that can be used by the safety practitioner to promote and encourage good health and safety performance and standards. College Champion Health & Safety Award
Supported by the HSE, LSC, and IOSH and as part of European Health and Safety Week 2006, the College Champion Health & Safety Award is open to Further Education, Sixth Form and Tertiary Colleges in the UK who have made "outstanding and innovative contributions to ensure that young people make a safe start in their working lives". New IOSH SW Chair
At the branch AGM held on the 27th of April 2006, Andrew Munro handed over chair of the branch to Diane Ekland following his four years of tenure. The photograph below shows Andrew accepting a gift on behalf of the branch in recognition of his hard work and dedication whilst in post. Andrew will continue to support the branch as Treasurer.

IOSH Specialist Groups
The branch is seeking representatives to act as points of contact for the following Specialist Groups:
"Safe and Sustainable" Event 4.4.06
To be held at Exeter University, this is one of a series of free partnership events run by the Working Well Together campaign in partnership with Envirowise and the Future Foundations Sustainable Initiative. The aim of these events is to address key health and safety
issues and sustainable challenges, through the design phase and construction delivery. If you are a small building company or a small design practice, and would like to receive up-to-date
