Welcome to the website of the South West Branch of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health. When I received an e-mail asking me to update the welcome page for our site I thought a year cannot have gone already, but it has! Even more of a concern is that in 2008 I will be entering my third year as Chair of the Branch - where did that time go? It has been a privilege to serve on the Committee and I hope 2008 will be as good if not better than 2007.
We're continuing to get high turnouts for our meetings – the biggest meeting of 2007 being in November on working at height, bringing a massive turnout of 103 members. This was a first for the Branch, as was coming top in the IOSH survey of Branches. It is really very rewarding to have such feedback as a Committee and we will strive to continuously improve and would thank you all for your support.
The Committee remains strong and dedicated, always aiming to run interesting meetings in comfortable venues. It’s very encouraging for us to see such high attendance levels, but please do let us know if you’re planning to come to a meeting, so that we don’t exceed the venue’s capacity and so that we can use our limited funds as efficiently as possible. Or, if you book a place and cannot subsequently make it, please cancel, thus giving other Members the chance to attend. You can book places by using the Branch website, which also has details of future events, as well as reports on meetings that you may have missed and a host of other information - please use the menu to the left to access information regarding your Branch.
As Safety Professionals I understand that we are really busy people. We will aim to reflect topics that will be interesting to a wide audience, to ensure you make as much use of valuable time in 2008, in our programme which we hope will have something for everyone. If you have any suggestions for future events, improvements to meetings or new venues, please get in touch with a Committee Member, either at a meeting or via our website.
I look forward to your continued support in 2008.
The role of the Branch is to keep Members up-to-date in the field of occupational safety and health. This is achieved by regular meetings and discussions held at a variety of locations across Devon and Cornwall where a current topic is presented to members. The Branch Committee Members are responsible for organising Branch events based upon member input, as well as managing the affairs of the Branch in general terms.
